THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto: Public Service. MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1921. PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION.

The proposal that a Parliamentary delegation should be invited to visit The Hauraki Plains is a good one, and merits the support of the whole of the Thames Valley and Hauraki Plains chambers of commerce, local bodies,. and tile general community. There is little doubt that, notwithstanding the amount of publicity that has been given to the Plains during recent years, only those who have visited the district have sound ideas as to the class of land, position of roads and rivers in relation to various areas, and the requirements needful for the district’s progress. Correspondence received locally at various times from Cabinet Ministers reveals a very vague notion of the geographical situation and potentialities of certain areas, and until the general ignorance of politicians is dispelled the district can hope for little governmental assistance in its various important projects. It is only a few months' ago, for instance, that a Cabinet Minister visiting the district expressed surprise that Paeroa was only nine miles from Pafetonga. How can we expect just treatment and assistance towards getting the remaining five miles of road made to connect Paeroa and Patetonga when such ignorance exists in political circles ? The proposed Paeroa-Pokeno railway is one of the major matters that could be brought before ‘such a delegation, and also that of a main arterial road under the new. scheme. A fresh-water supply for the Plains is another desired object. It is early to go into details yet, but it is to be hoped that the idea of a Parliamentary delegation will commend itself to all parties in the district, and that a carefully thought out programme will be prepared should the invitation be accepted.
