PAEROA CRICKET CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. , The annual meeting of the above club was held m the Bprough Chambers last night. Mr A- E. Fielder presided, and the following members were present: P, G. Furley, H. McC. Shand, C. Kenny., S.. J. Bishop, W. D. Nicholas, J. Walmsley, Martin, Beetham, Alf. Jenkinson, C. Bowden, and W. L. Lawrence (secretary). After the cpnfir, mation of the inaugural meeting '.the secretary read the following report, which was adopted. “Your Committee has pleasure in presenting to you the first annual report of the Paeroa Cricket Club, and in doing so considers that, -taking into consideration the fact .that the Club was formed very late in the season, and that cricket had been dormant in Paeroa for a number of years,, great success was obtained. Approximately 36 joined the CLuo last season, though unfortunately all the subscriptions have not yet been paid,. We would, therefore, urge upon the delinquents to let the secretary have the overdue subscriptions at once, to enable the Club to meet its liabilities and to purchase necessary gear for the ensuing season. As the accompanying balance-shee; shows, -the Club has liabilities amounting to £6 4s. If*- all the outstanding subscriptions are paid this amount will be just about wiped off. The annual subscription was fixed last year at 10s per member, which sum we consider ample for the ensuing season. We confidently anticipate that in 1921-22 the membership should materially increase. We regret to have lost the services of Mr Geo. Dean, .the president, who has left the district. Mr Dean during last soason set ‘a fine example to cricketers, young and old, by his enthusiasm both on and off the field, and his loss will be greatly felt by the Club. We recommend to the incoming Committee that it is advisable Co purchase a net for practice. Occasionally only a few turn up, and with a net it would be easier for those present to get good bathing and bowling practice. Unfortunately there seems no possibility of having a turf or concrete wicket laid down for this season, and the matting will be necessary. The wicket be nearer the middle of the field, for last year one pf the boundaries was very short. The Thames, Waihi, Morrinsville, and Te Aroha clubs have been written to as to the advisability of forming a local Association: it is for the incoming Committee tc deal with this matter. We consider that it will encourage interest in the game if an association is formed, but it is desirable that our Club is pu,t on a good footing in the first place ; also that the members get plenty of - good practice to enable the Club to hold its own. In conclusion your Commit! trusts that the 1921-22 season will see our club firmly established, both as to strength on the field and financially. There is plenty of good material in the district, and we must develop that material. Whether it is possible .to run two elevens this yea 1 * it is for you to say, but at all events the young players must be encouraged.
Cricket is the king of games, and it is hoped and anticipated that cricket will, during the coming season, prove to be the most popular of summer games in our town, as is its right all over the Empire.
