A. AND P. MATTERS.
HAURAKI PLAINS ASSOCIATION. a ANNUAL MEETING LAPSES. An attempt to hold the annual meeting of the Hauraki Plains Agricultural and Pastoral Association was made last Saturday, but not a sufficient number attended to form a quorum. An informal meeting was therefore held, Mr Chatfield Xpresident) occupying the chair. Mr Walton (hon. auditor), as solicitor do the association, quoted the original rules and regulations of the Association, and pointed out .that the annual meeting could not be held as the auditing of the books was not yet complete, and there was no balancesheet prepared ; also there were not the 20 members present necessary to form a quorum. ’ Before an annual meeting could be held these rules must be complied with. APPOINTMENT OF SECRETARY. - Mr Munro proposed, and Mr McDuff seconded, that .the president be empowered to assist the auditor all he could.—Carried. Mr Bagnall asked if there had been an overdraft" arranged for ,at the bank. The secretary said that the bank was agreeable for the Association to overdraw to a small amount. - Mr Walton read the statement of accounts, .which, however, w.as not final, as the auditing of the books had not been completed. There were several subscriptions outstanding. On the resignation of the secretary, Mr J. Leonard, it was decided on the motion of Mr Bagnall and Mr Munro to call applications for the position of secretary, the chairman in the meantime to carry on .as acting secretary. Mr Bagnall drew attention to a decision of the committee- which had not been adhered to., Mr J. H. Carter proposed a notice of motion that the rule requiring 20 for' a quorum for the annual meeting be rescinded, and make the number 12. The chairman thought this was not in order. Mr Munro seconded Mr Carter’s notice of motion. Mr Bagnall thought 20 was a minimum for a quorum. Mr Johnstone: If you can reduce the number reduce it by all \means. Regarding the secretary’s salary, Mr Munro said that this meeting, as it was an informal) one; could not fix the new secretary’s .salary.' Mr- Munro moved that two members of the committee should decide the duties of the new secretary. Mr Murdoch seconded. The chairman and auditor were elected to deal with this matter. .
DRONES NOT WANTED, Mr Carter thought there should be a smaller committee, and keep the “ drones ” out of it. The chairman did not see why the vice presidents should be part of- the committee. Mr Johnstone. said as drones died every year there would be none in the association at the end of this year. The vice-presidents who had given small donations should die in this fashion. The chairman said the reference was not particularly to the vicepresidents, but members of the executive apart from the vice-presidents. The chairman assured those present that meeting would be called at the earliest possible date. ASSOCIATION’S GROUNDS. The chairman explained that in the centre of the association’s grounds there was situated the proposed domain site. It was the association’s intention to purchase this centre piece of land so that the association could gain a title for the whole piece. Another domain site would then be selected. Mr Twist thought the association should take over this property immediately. The chairman thought it would be a mistake to allow this block to be controlled by two different authorit!es who might clash. ' Mr Carter moved that the finance committee should get this matter settled. Mr Munro seconded and suggested that a working bee should be formed ,to improve the show grounds! The motion was carried.
