(“Gazette” Staff Reporter.) lUHUA, SCHOOL BENEFIT. Through the courtesy of Mr F. Olsen, picture proprietor, a picture entertainment was held in the hall at Turua last Tuesday evening, the proceeds being devoted to the schoolground improvement fund, A large number attended the entertainment, and all the seating space was fully occupied. A first-class programme was presented, and included one of Constance Talmadge’s best pictures and a Charlie Chaplin production. The gross takings were £l4 9s, and when all expenses are deducted the ground improvement fund should benefit by abojt £l2. CHURCH BAZAAR. Arrangements h,ave been made by the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Turua, to hold the annual bazaar in November, and efforts arc being made by the churehpeople to make this event an outstanding success,

At the meeting of directors pf the Piako Shipping Co., held at Ngatea bn Tuesday, it was decided to hold the annual meeting of shareholders at Ngatea on October 4. £ THE BACON BUSINESS. We have it from good authority that a new bacon depot is shortly to be opened at Ngatea. The exact date of the opening is not yet known. ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Hauraki Plains Agricultural and Pastoral Association is to be held at Kerepeehi to-morrow. CALFSKINS. ' Mr J. H. Nicholson has recently been doing well in 'the calf-skin line, and collects on an average about 1500 skins every week. One man’s cheque for skins supplied to Mr Nicholson last week was for over £32.
