BALL AT KEREPEEHI.

RETURNED SOLDIERS EFFORT.,

A HAPPY GATHERING.

The ha,ll at Kerepeehi presented a gay appearance on Thursday evening, when the returned, soldiers of the district held what proved .to be, a most successful ball.

It was apparent that the energetic committee had spared no effort to cater for the enjoyment of the. large number which .attended. In the hall there was a liberal) display of greenery tastefully arranged, this being set off with fancy lanterns suspended from the ceiling.

The 40 or 50 couples, dancing gaily to the superb music of Mr A. Williams’ (Thames) orchestra of five instruments, included visitors from Ngatea, Netherton, Hikutaia, Thames, Kopu, Kdpuarahi, and Paeroa. The music calls for special mention. The tunes, which were bright, the time being even, inspired one with a.spirit to “waltz, and waltz, and waltz” as the latest vocal hit says. Mrs Chatfield obliged with The supper provided was of a first-class order, the dainties being, enough to tickle the palate of the poorest .appetite. The caterers evidently understand their business, supplying with ‘he trifles, jellies, and salads,- a copious supply of cream.

Altogether it was a very pleasant function and an outstanding success, on which the committee, consisting of the following, is to be . congratulated: Mesdames H. Bagnall, R. S. Hutchinson, J. Twist, Hudson, and A. Chatfield, Miss C. Fawcett, Messrs Dent Jenkins, Lawler, and W. Booth.
