; — SATURDAY’S BENEFIT MATCH. On Saturday the Goldfields Rugby Union has arranged for a team’’ of Goldfields veterans to play the pre-sent-day representatives; th.e proceeds to go as a benefit to a veteran footballer, Mr J.. Coot©. "Mr Coote, who is .a victim of miners’ complaint, has had a long spell of illness; and this game is an endeavour on the part of footballers of this district to help a friend in need. One of the those whB have s done - most to place football in the position it holds to-day as New Zealand’s national game is Mr Coote, who has represented Thames, Goldfields, and Auckland, and was a star member of the Goldfields 'team when this district Was able to hold its the football field against any fifteen in New Zealand. Mr Coote is widdly known as .a footballer who always played the game as it should be played, and in private life is highly respected for his goodfellowsh’ip by all who have the privilege of knowing, him.
This match, should be well worth witnessing, and it is hoped the public will attend in force on this occasion. The teams will be published on Friday. .
