DISMISSAL OF EMPLOYEES.

The failure of the recent machinery loan poll was discussed at the Haur.aki Plains County Council"meeting at Ngatea on Monday. Cr. Death said that the Hikutaia quarry was a matter which required attention. Npw that .the-loan had been turned dewn, what was to be done ? Cr. McLoughlin suggested putting the ferry in sufficient repair to ferjjy the lorries carrying-. the metaiiacr.oss the river. K was suggested to lease the Kopu ferry. ; Cr,. Death .was against carting any more metal over the road, and suggested the trucks travelling through Paeroa.

Cr. Hayward contended that they could not go on, and suggested that the matter should hang over to see what they could dp with the machinery loan. x >

The Chairman : It appears that this has brought’things to a deadlock. Cr. F. Mayn proposed that the .recommendation of the finance committee be given effect tb, that all the Council’s employees except office staff be dismissed and works be stopped except anything urgent. It was lef" to the engineer to see that all men possible should be kept in employment. —The motion was carried.
