MAINTENANCE CASE.
PAULSEN V. PAULSEN. In the Paeroa Court to-day, before Mr J. Salmon, S.M., Mary Ann Paulsen, second wife of Paul Paulsen, of Nethertori, took .action against the latter for maintenance.
Mr E.> J. Clendon appeared for plaintiff, asking that the amount; tss per week, should b.e increased, and that arrears should he paid up. Defendant had recently instituted divorce proceedings, but withdrew them, having io pay costs. This had caused relations to be strained. Mary Ann Paulsen, second wife of defendant, stated th ( at she was in poor health. Her husband was well able to keep her. She wanted £2 per week. To Mr Porritt, who appeared for defendant : Witness had five adult sons. She did not know of any agreement that her boys were to pay in 5s per week each, although she knew they had paid certain amounts in prder '.o keep the case cut of court. Mr Porritt: The boys agreed to pay 25s towards £2 per week, on a previous arrangement. This was on the understanding that you kept out of the place. Witness said she had got possession of household furniture. She did not agree ’that her sons should support her while she had a husband. Had she known that any such arrangement was being made she would no: have let the case he,kept out of court befera, Mr Porritt: What are you earning ? Witness: 10s per week cleaning your office out.
Mr Clendon: You had.better raise that to £l, Mr Porritt. (Laughter.)
Witness gave a list of other places she attended to in the past (Left sitting.)
