MARKET REPORT. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., reports;— Beef.—During the past week the demand for beef considerably improved, prime quality ox selling roughly at 365. Fair supplies of turnip cattle are available, but are mostly being held in the expectation of further advances.
Mutton has also shown improvement, although supplies seem sufficiently plentiful. Consignments from the South whjch have had a steadying influence on the local market have now ceased.
Store Cattle—There is no alteration to report. The popular fancy still centres on empty dairy heifers, and unquestionably well-grown animals of this class hold out some hope of profitable investment if the butter industry maintains its. ground, but the practice of putting undersized animals to’ the bull is a waste >f money and is annually proved so. All other classes of store stock are difficult to quit.
Store sheep have,- if* anything, slightly improved, but unless the outlook brightens there is not much probability of any marked advance. Dairy Cattle,r—With the improve.! weather conditions values have advanced and in all centres brisk business is recorded. In spite of the Necessity that exists for the exercise of care and judgment in the selectionof dairy animals each succeeding year sees worthless rejects more easily traded. There seems a pressing need for some means of safeguarding a section of dairymen from .the results of their own folly.
Pigs are much on the basis of our hjjst report. Store pigs’ have somewhat improved.
