PUBLIC CONVENIENCES.
Sir, —The recent disappearance of, as far as I know, ,£.he only public convenience of its kind in Paeroa from the corner, near thje firebell was the cause- of some anxiety to me yesterday afternoon. After sitting for several hours at a meeting at the Council Chambers I was compelled .to retire and "vainly sought the shelter and solace that such buildings afford. On making inquiries I was .told that it had been removed to make way for a garden plot, or other beautifying device. Now, I yield to none in admiration of the beautiful, and am glad to see .the praiseworthy efforts of the Beautifying Society in Paeroa, but there are times when such a little recess is more welcome than flowers, and certainly more necessary. I hope that these public places are not to be banished from our town and suggest that if any remain they should be surrounded by shrubs or creepers and so become pleasant necessary oasis in the desert, of streets and shopfronts. A VISITOR.
