THEFT AT PAEROA.

AN ARREST MADE. A series of thefts committed at Te Aroha and Paeroa during the past few days culminated in the arrest at Waihi on Wednesday of a young man named John McLean, who was before <lie Magistrate’s Court charged with the theft of a brief bag, valued at £4 10s, and contents, including £l9 2s 6d in cash, and with breaking andentering the Paeroa railway station and stealing therefrom a suit case valued at £lO, the property of the New Zealand Government. The accused was remanded until August 18.
A sum of money, corresponding with ttfie (sum massing, wa,s fouiM\by the police buried in the ground under the dwelling in which the accused resided, together with a package of letters belonging, to the person who had lost his brief bag from a hotel at Te Aroha.
