BREAKING AND ENTERING
PAEROA RAILWAY STATION.
LUGGAGE ROOM RIFLED.
THE GOODS RECOVERED.
There was a mild sensation caused at Paeroa Railway Station on Monday night, at about 0.15 o’clock, when the luggage room was broken into by some person or persons. Porter McFarlane was walking across the street opposite the station at the time, when he heard a noise as of falling glass. He hastened to the platform, and although lie saw no sign of an intruder, he noticed a luggage box lying pn the platform near the refreshment room. He immediately rang up the Police Station, and Constable McClinchy hastened down right away. An inspection quickly disclosed the fact that the window of the luggage room had been broken. The constable then made a search of the yard and car-* riage.s, and found a dress basket on the platform of one of them, which he handed pver to the porter. Yesterday morning a further search was made, and while this was in progress a passer-by informed the police that he had picked up a kit-bag on the side of 'the road, and which he handed over.. The bag had been slashed open, apparently with a pocket knife, but nothing had been taken therefrom.
The police have a clue as to *he culprit, and certain further investigations are now being made by Constable McClinchy.
