District News.

TAUPIRI. (Own Correspondent.) The growth of settlement, in and around Taupiri has been very marked of late. The Kainui estate is now in the hands of a number of energetic settlers, and the land is considered first-class. Holdings that were sold at under £lO an acre a few years ago are now valued at £3O. In *the Mangawara district, the growth has also been corresponding, and the whole Dilworth Estate, and the University leases are being rapidly- improved. Orini, 8 miles from Taupiri is now a thriving district and the advent of a cheese factory - has given it a good impetu--. The Taupiri Progressive League is working steadily for the advancement of the district. After being granted £lOlO for a new Post Office, so badly needed, we are coolly informed by the official in charge of postal affairs that the work is not now considered urgent, and that the Government does not intend at present to spend the money. The matter of the cattle yards and approaches at the Railway Station is also being energetically tackled. At present the method of driving stock through the station yard to the cattle yards, constitutes a veritable death trap. A welcome to returned troopers is to be held in the Hall on Friday 11th.
