Pukemiro Picnic and Sports.
A grand picnic Was held in the Pukemiro Reserve on Saturday last, when all the people of the township and adjoining farms were out for a day’s enjoyment. To obtain toys for the children, subscription lists had been taken round both at Pukemiro and in Huntly, the response being
hearty. Y , The result was a fine aftAviOon^s
enjoyment. Several prizes were donated from Huntly for the races which were well contested, owing to the excellent handicapping of Mr A. Taylor. The other officers for the races were Mr J. Pitterrs and Mr H. Astbury, judge and starter respectively. Mr and Mrs A. Burt took up the part of handing over the prizes to the winners. During the intervals between the races the swing which had been fixed up for the children, was well patronised. The tug-o-war was a great contest, and after a very hard pull the underground team managed to gain the first two pulls and thus win.
