The Great Maori Genius.

The students of the Maori Agricultural College, Hastings, who are touring during their vacation with the object of stimulating a desire among the Maoris for education and thrift, incidently are helping the Patriotic Fund. They appeared in the Miners’ Hall last night under the management of Mr Walter Smith. The following is the programme : Mr Smith in magic sleight ot hand ana illusions is above the average slight of hand artist. Mandolin and piano, Messrs W. Smith and A- E. Savage, accompanist, Song by Mr Rangi Raraitiana, “ We Shall Get There in Time," was well received. This song was sold during the interval. All money derived therefrom will go to the Wounded Soldiers’ fund by arrangement with Mr Don, publisher, and composer. Niki and Rangi, the Maori comedians, were really good, and acquitted themselves with credit to Mr Smith. Mr Matenga has a nice tenor voice and received a good round of applause, Mr Smith as a ventriloquist, is one of the best, and was very fuuny, and greatly amused the Maori part of the audience. The instrumlalists are exceptionally good. Mr A. E. Savage who is the accompanist, has a very fine touch and has composed a classical Waltz entitled “ The Skipper ” It is a sweet melodious piece, and music lovers should all secure p. copy.

The corny any has raised the sum of £3l 9s for the Fund already. The tour will continue for another month.
