Fatal Accident

A most distressing accident resulting in the death of Mrs Arthur Ruston, occurred at Hamilton on Monday last. The circumstances surrounding the death were somewhat unusual. It appears that Mrs Ruston had just driven in from Matangi, where she was staying with relatives, when, in stepping out of the buggy, she missed her footing and fell. She did not appear to have been hurt, but, on going into the house of a friend, she complained of feeling unwell, and lay down while medical assistance was for. Before the doctor arrived, however, she had expired, apparently from shock. The receipt of the news in Huntly, cast quite a gloom over the community. Mrs Ruston was the daughter of Mrs Hughes of Great South Road, and was well-known and highly respected by all who knew her. She lost her husband (Mr Arthur Ruston) in the Disaster last year, and leaves behind her, their only daughter, a little girl about 3 years old. Much sympathy has been expressed and shown for Mrs Ruston's relatives, several of whom are resident in Huntly, and to whom the loss comes with additional severity owing to its extreme suddeiumsw. . INQUEST. An inquest was held at Hamilton on Wednesday, before the Coroner, Mr Rawson S.M. Evidence was given showing how the accident occurred, and the medical testimony showed that death was caused by heart failure, following on the shock caused by the accident. A verdict was returned accordingly. FUNERAL. The funeral took place yesterday, at the Kimihia cemetery, the cortege leaving the residence of Mrs Hughes at 2.30 p.m. In addition to many relatives and a great number of friends of the deceased, both the Male and Female Lodges of the Orange Order were well represented in the procession. A very large crowd gathered at the graveside, where, besides the Hitri;.] Service most impressively said by the Rev J. L. A. Kayll, the Burial Service of the Orange Lodge was read by Mr Hooker.
