Mr W. R. Mayland, of Huntly West, notifies in this issue his house of six rooms witli conveniences, and one acre of land partly in orchard, for sale.
Rev. W. Lea has been appointed to take charge of the Methodist Church in place of Rev. W. Watson, who sailed in the Hospital Ship on Sunday last.
Mr J. Elliot will hold his last sale of the year on the 18th December, when there will be offered a quantity of new and second hand furniture ; also, potatoes, fowls, etc.
The Taupiri Coal Company invite tenders for the right to graze for a term of five years of about 177 acres of grass land adjoining Huntly township.
A social and Christmas sale of work in connection with the Presbyterian Church will be held in the Masonic Hall on Friday and Saturday, 17th and 18th. See dodgers.
It is remarkable that anticonscription motions are passed, usually by those who are of military age, and favourable to the voluntary system—but they don’t volunteer.
Holiday Excursions will be run on New Year’s Day by s.s. Tawera to Whatawhata Races, leaving Huntly at 8.15 a.m., and Hamilton on the 2nd January leaving Huntly at 9.30 ; returning from Hamilton at 4 p.m. See dodgers and ad. next week.
On the 21st November the Now Zealand Dairy Association distributed amongst its suppliers the sum of £85153 4s 4d. This covered 14334701b5. of buuer-fat suppled during the month of October. The amount, distributed for the corresponding month last year was £68715 2s 2d, thus the inctease for the month was £16448 2s 2d.—Waipa Post.
Southern cricket clubs are refusing to allow members of military age to play in the competitions this year, alleging that theso should be in the firing line. The action of the clubs seems to be meeting with general approval and indeed it would be a courageous eligible who would go to the club and demand to be allowed to play. Indeed, a man so courageous would never reach the club’s office, he would turn in at the Defence Office.
Mr J. Elliot reports that a large number of poultry and ducks were offered at last Saturday’s sale. The following prices being obtained :—Poultry, 1/3 to 2/-; ducks. 1/6 to 2/1. We are advised by the Postal Department that correspondence for a member of the British Expeditionary Force of the Persian Gulf should be addressed in the following manner : —Regimental number (if known), Rank, Name, Squadron or Company, Battalion or Company, Expeditionary Force in Persian Gulf, care of General Post Office, Wellington. The postage payable is, for parcels to India—viz., 2s 2}-£d for a weight not exceeding 31bs., 3s 31f>d for a weight exceeding 31bs. and not exceeding 7 lbs, and 4s for a weight exceeding 7. ibs and not exceeding 11 lbs (war tax included).
