The following resolution was carried unanimously at a meeting held in the Miners’ Hall, on Thursday November 17th : —■ ‘‘Whereas the Capitalist pr ss of New Zealand, also individuals high in the Councils of the Dominion are advocating conscription, and, whereas conscription means not only compulsory military service, but compulsory industrial service, which would deprive all workers the right to strike for better conditions, therefore, be it resolved that we, the Taupiri Coal Mine Workers’ Industrial Union of Workers resist any such proposal to the uttermost, and be it further resolved, that if compulsory service, industrial or military, belbrought before the New Zealand Parliament, steps be taken to immediately call a special meeting of the N.Z. Federated Coal Miners’ Associated Executive to decide what action should be taken in the matter.
