Patriotic Funds.

The following replies have been received by the Town Board, in reply to their statement of what they, in conjunction with the Ladies’ Committee, are prepared to do in connection with the Queen Carnival arrangements.

It will be remembered, that, at the meeting of the Ladies’ Commiittee held recently, it was decided to do all possible to help on the movement, but on no account to disturb the present system of house to house collection. It will be seen from the replies received, that both Hamilton and Auckland centres heartily approve of this decision. Canvass Committee Rooms, Chamber of Commerce, 11th October, 1915. The Secretary, Huntly Town Board, Dear Sir, —Your letter of the 7th inst is duly to hand and was laid before my executive to-day.

The executive desire me to offer their congratulations to your committee on the system of canvass you have in existence at Huntly—and to state that whilst this Committee was requested to organise a canvass of the whole of the Military District of Auckland for the 18th to 25th October, they must necessarily leave the details to the Local Body undertaking the work of collecting and under the circumstances existing the decision of your Committee is no doubt the right one. Yours faithfully, I. C. SPEDDING, Hon. Sec.. Canvass Committee. Auckland Queen Carnival. F. Harris, Esq., Clerk Huntly Town Board, Huntly. Dear Sir,—l am in receipt of your letter of the 7th inst., and have been instructed by the Executive to thank you and your committee for the remarks therein contained. It would as you suggest be unwise to disturb the present excellent arrangement instituted by your committee for house to house collection and if you would kindly remit monies raised by you to Mr F. W. Luxford, Hon. Treasurer, of the Executive Committee, Victoria St., Hamilton, he will acknowledge receipt of same and send it on to Auckland I shall send you some tickets early in the coming week and later some books of Art Union tickets. Yours faithfully, H. A. HOPKINS, Hon. Sec., for Executive.
