It is being built in such a way that future extensions will be made at a minimum cos .. Owing tc the rather unsuitable nat of the ground, cud the stress that will t>6 exerted by the mac ill aery while in motion, the fou . ion., have to be made extionally heavy, and altogether contain about 130 cubic yards of concrete, the engine bed alone being a solid block of concrete containing about forty cubic yards. The wall foundations have been made broad to prevent any danger of sinking, and are to be reinforced with iron rods where necessary. If the tenders closing on October 21st, are satisfactory, it is anticipated that the work will go straight on. and that the Town will be lighted before the approach of next winter.
