District News.
RUAWARO. Own Co rrespo ndent. A meeting of the Huntly West branch of the Farmers' Union was held in the Pukenui W School on July 24th at 8 p.m. f when the following members were present. —Messrs R. McEwan, chairman, A. Caley, secretary, S. Loyd, F. Capstick, C. C. Comins, C. T. Comins, P. Caley, C. Alder, T. Sefton, J. Mount, W. Smith, A. Smith, G. Farmer, J. Brown, W. C. Broughton, J. Furniss. J. 11. Fnrniss and D. Marsh. The minutes of the previous meeting were adopted as read. A long discussion took place on the question of making a special rating atea for the purpose of metalling the roads. It was eventually decided to invite the County Engineers to meet a deputation from the branch to discuss the question. Messrs R. McEwan, J. Furniss and W. C. Broughton were chosen to act on deputation, and to.report to the next meeting. The hall sub-committee handed in a report of money promised to the hall fund. It was proposed to ask the provincial secretary to obtain prices of building materials, etc. Proposed by Mr Broughton that the County Council be asked to put a permanent surfaceman on the roads. —Carried. The Lands Office, at the request of the branch, have decided to open the Cemetery Reserve in the district, and as it. will be necessary to elect Trustees, all settlers in the district are invited to a inerting in the Pukenui School at 7.30 p.m on August 21st. The ordinary meeting of the Union will be held at 8.30 p.m.
