Own Correspondent. Captain and Mr C. Whitney of Auckland, have been the guests of Mr A. McKinnon at “Tihi Runga,” and left on Wednesday. As a result of the recent heavy rainfall, Mr Tapp’s dam carried away, and is causing him considerable inconvenience. Although we have had a very considerable amount of wet weather, the grass is growing exceptionally well for this time of the year, that at the school looking particularly well, despite the fact of the very late sowing. The children are eagerly looking forward to the time when they will he able to leave their horses in the playground instead of having to pay for their grazing, as those who ride gave to do so at present.
Master A. Jamieson has returned to school after his recent accident. Master C. Tapp is making good process towards recovery. The sheep farmers are anxiously looking forward to a good season for lambing, as this is an important factor, considering the present high price of wool. Agents are busy in this district trying to sell milking machines and separators, and have been successful in disposing of an engine with separator attachment. Mr Geo. Gray of Thames Valley, paid a visit to Mr Leek on Monday. Farmers are taking advantage of the long looked for fine weather in preparing their land for oat sowing and ploughing for turnips. Considering the season, Mr Naylor has had an exceptionally fine crop of onions, several turning the scale at 21b or over.
