The Rev. J. T. McWilliam was in Pluntly during the week. The N.Z. Patriotic Society’s art union for motor car is to be drawn «n July 10th, not June 30th as stated on the ticket. A special train for Waikato Trotting Club’s Meeting held at Claudelands, will leave Huntly on June 26th, at 10.15 a.m., returning' from Claudelands at 5 p.m. same evening. Last Sunday evening in the Methodist Church, the Rev. W. A. Watson preached a very impressive - sermon on the Relationship of Christianity to the present Social Crisis. The Town Board is making good headway with the curbing and channelling in front of the new Bank and the Huntly Hotel, and when finished this will be quite an acquisition to the town. We would draw the atenttion of our readers to Mr H. D, Crump’s new advertisement, announcing dates of attendance in Huntly for 'July, August and September. The benefit foolball match played at Huntly last Saturday in aid of-the Hospital Ship between Huntly and Taupiri resulted in a win for the visitors. Taupiri scoring seven points to The tenders called by the Chairman and Secretary of the Huntly School Committee for cleaning the school, etc., resulted in two tenders coming to hand, both being for £SO per annum. The tenderers Messrs Cummack and Husband decided on drawing, resulting in the latter securing the position. A rather curious acccijent occurred at one of the big boarding houses in the town on Tuesday night. About 10 o’clock a loud noise was heard iu the vicinity of tke station, and all sorts of wild guesses wore I made as to what had happened, thoughts of explosions and train smashes filling the minds of people, near by. It turned out that the stand on which two tanks were placed had proved insufficient to carry the weight imposed on it, and had collapsed. Fortunately, the smash was' not complete, and no damage was done to anything but the stand and tanks themselves, but the accident was sufficient to give those concerned a good fright.
