THE HUNTLY PRESS PUBLISHED WEEKLY AT 1 P.M. FRIDAY, JUNE 18, 1915. The Election.

WITH the declaration of the result of Taumarunui Poll, the General Elections of 1914, have at last come to an end, and the position of parties is, to say the least, unsatisfactorily. According to the Government counting of heads, they have a majority of two, which will be reduced to one on the election of a Speaker. But, as Mr Tau Henare has not yet declared himself as to party, there is a large element of doubt as to the relative strength of the parties. If the member for the N. Maori District should choose to thrown in his lot with the Liberals, it would place tbe present Government party in a minority of one. However things go, matters political must be pronounced unsatisfactory, and it will take a lot of forbearance on both sides to keep from a political turmoil which would be very regretable at this time. However, we are of opinion that no upheaval will occur, and that, no matter which party obtains the ascendancy, they will agree to leave contentious measures severely alone, and to do only such business as is absolutely necessary until the War is over.
