Huntly School of Mines.
A meeting of the Hnntly School of Mines Council was held on Monday evening last to discuss a notice of motion that the Council proceed to consider the advisability of better equipping the school.
The notice of motion was given in consequence of a report from the Director, in which he pointed out that the work of the school could more efficiently be carried on if a laboratory with benches, sinks and other appliances were provided. He pointed out also, the need foi supplying a case to hold the books which at present formed the school library. At present these books were just lying about, deteriorating. He also asked for a specimen case to hold specimens in hand and to come, and a above to heat the building during the winter months.
The matter was well discussed by the gentlemen present, it being agreed by all that the Council should give the school the best equipment possible with the money at their disposal. The financial position as revealed by the secretary, showed that, after all known expenses were met, there would be a fair amount of money available for equipment. Tt was decided to ask the Director to make a further statement showing what things ware wanted most urgently, a.id a sub-committee, consisting of ■the President, the Secretary, and Mr F. Harris were appointed to carry out the work outlined in that statement, the expenditure at present being limited ti £SO. After the meeting closed, the members went over the building with the Director, discussing the various alterations proposed.
