Fire At Ohinewai.

On Tuesday night, Mr Angus McKinnon, junr, of Ohinewai, was awakened by intense heat and a loud crackling noise to find that the house was in a blaze. The fire had such a good hold that nothing could be done to check it, and indeed was burning so fiercely that it was with some difficulty that some of tho inmates escaped, Mr S. Hampton, who was staying there, escaping in his night attire. By the time the occupants of the house were safely out the building had become a veritable furnace and practically nothing was saved. The cause of the fire is a mystery. Everything was all right when the family retired for the night, and things were in such a state when Mr McKinnon awoke that it was impossible to form any opinion as to the direct cause of the fire. We understand that the house and contents were insured; but the amounts and office were not ascertainable before we went to press.
