Deputation to Mr Ralph.
♦ The deputation appointed by the Miners' Union to wait upon the directors of the Taupiri Company with a view to the formulation of a new agreement consequent, upon the changed working conditions induced by tlie introduction of safety lamps, saw Mr W. J. Ralph on Thursday prior to his departure for Auckland by the morning train. After hearing the members Mr Ralph stated that the directors had been so busily engaged in the effort to obtain explosives and with the great amount of work entailed by the disaster that a meeting with the deputation, which he was glad to see, could not be arranged. The miners, said Mr Ralph, always had his sympathy, and he would arrange for the representatives of the union to meet his colleagues on the directorate to-morrow (Friday) at 10. 30 a.m. The- members of the deputation left for the city by Thursday afternoon’s express.
