Hibernians.
The usual meeting of the St. Anthony’s branch was held last Sunday evening, when the President, Bro. McLeod, presided over a good attendance. Several’letters of sympathy in connection with the late disaster from the dilferent branches of the order throughout the Dominion were read, and several accounts were passed for payment. The President, in a brief speech, alluded to the sad catastrophe that had taken place since the members had last met, and hoped the Hibernians would do their utmost individually to assist the unfortunate families of the victims. A motion of sympathy was accorded to Mrs J. Darby, and to Mrs Slavin, and the sad loss they had sustained through the disaster was sincerely deplored. During the evening Bro. W Darby moved that there be recorded in the minute book the admiration of the members at the splendid and noble work o flhe Rev. Father Edge in connection with the explosion. Father Edge, the speaker said, had ventured below without hesitation in the hope that he might tie of service to some of the unfortunate victims and be in time to do some good. The motion was carried unanimously.
