TE HOE.
Fearing a shortage of foodstuffs in the event of the war being a prolonged, the Auckland Provincial Executive of the Farmer’s Union, has asked the members of the various branches for the free use of a portion of their land on which they may grow wheat, oats, maize, etc., alsoforthe free use of teams, harness and implements. Their request has met with a hearty response at Te Hoe, three hundred acres being offered so far, as well as several teams and implements. Mr C. O. Phair has arranged a social for Friday 4th inst,., the proceeds of which will go to the Patriotic Fund. Mr Geo. Proctor of Pleasant. Plains met with a rather serious accident on Sunday evening last. He approached too near the fly wheel of his oil engine, with the result that lie became entangled in it and was dashed several times on the floor. Mr S. Watt was fortunately near and stopped the engine, Mr Proctor V-eping with a very bad cut or the eye and al' ’ ’ : ght .de badly bruised.
