Ohinewai.

GRAND CONCERT. A grand concert was held in the new hall, Ohinewai, on Friday night last in aid of the piano fund, Mr A. Welch presiding over a good and most appreciative audience. The programme submitted was most enjoyable, almost every one of the singers being most vociferously applauded. Mrs T. Black delighted the audience with “ Killarney ” and “ Bide a Wee.” Mrs Muir was heard to advantage in “ Island of Dreamswhile Mrs G. Edgson fairly brought down the house with “ Darting Ladies, ” “ Waltz me round again Willie,” and others of a similar kind. Mr S. Cummings was heartily encored for “ Mary of Argyle ” and “ Annie Laurie ; ” Mr P. Henry s’ “ Mary ” was a great success ; and Mr R. Stevens’ line bass voice was heard to the utmost advantage in “ Asleep in the Deep, ” “ Ebb Tide, ” “ True till Death ” and “ The Skipper’s Flag. ” The comic element was supplied by Mr Geo. Morgan whose songs and recitations fairly captivated his auditors who demanded his recall again and' again. The accompaniments, as played by Mrs Bartley and Mr J. Haig, left nothing to be desired. The vote of thanks to the performers, proposed by the chairman, evoked a long continued round of applause, the audience in this way showing how greatly the first concert held in the new hall had been appreciated, and enjoyed.
