(Friday) MR. E. RAWSON, S.M., PRESIDING. A hoy about eleven years of age belonging to Kimihia was charged with stealing sixteen pounds in gold from the house of one resident, and two guns from the house of another. The lad who was tried privately, pleaded guilty to two charges, the third being withdrawn. Tiie police discovered the greater part of the money hidden in the scrub near Kimihia, and, further off the two guns which had been concealed in a similar manner, but at some distance from the money. The boy was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, and the father of the lad ordered to pay the portion of the money not recovered. The police are to be congratulated on the manner in which they traced the money and the weapons, and acted upon the information received some time after the thefts had been discovered. MONDAY. Messrs. E. J. Farrell and J. A. Lambert, J’s.P Presiding A nevv-c mier to the town was charged with receiving a ham valued at twelve shillings, the properly of Mr G. Williams, Butcher, well knowing the same to have been dishonestly coma by. After evidence as to identification, etc., had been led, the accused exp’ained that on awaking one morning he found a ham in his room. He did not know who had placed it there, and presumed that a joke was intended. Learning that the police had been enquiring into the matter, he foolishly took the ham and buried it in the grounds i attached to the house in which he boarded, and where it was afterwards found by the police. Accused who was convicted and fined £3, and ordered to pay for the ham, consented to a prohibition order being issued against him for twelve months.
