Hibernian Debating Society.
The Hibernians held their usual weekly debate in the Convent School room on Wednesday evening, when a very fair number attended to discuss the subject “ Should Capital Punishment be abolished.” For the affermativo Mr A. Woiwod who in a very neat speech relating to the laws of different countries, gave very sound reasons why capital punishment should be re tained, For the negative Mr F. Farrell strongly opposed the arguments in a very spirited manner, quoting several cases where innccent men had to suffer the death penalty through circumstantial evidence and packed juries. For the affirmative Mr W. Darby in a few choice words strongly condemned the arguments of the leader of the negative side, while the Rev. Father E Ige ahd Mr P. J. Hassett were strong,y :u favour of t,ie a"bolition of the death penalty. After the president, Mr J. Robertson, had summed up, a vote was taken which decided in favour of the affirmative by a fair mujoriG
