Outside Mining.

Tiie mine at Te Aka tea, became an actual coal producer on Tuesday when four truck loads were taken to Ngaruawahia for local consumption. An officer of the Public Works Department on the same day was busily engaged in inspecting the railway line which, it is expected, will he ready at a a early date not only for the carriage of goods but also of passengers. A correspondent who take a lively interest in mining writes to the effect that the Marainarua Coal Company is reducing its output from 149 to 49 tons per day. Tiiis means that for the future only four pair of miners will be employed there, and that the others will he obliged to look for work elsewhere.
