Sports Committee.
At a meeing of the Sports Committee held in the King’s Hall on Saturday night, the Secretary submitted the rough balance sheet in connection with the athletic gathering. It showed a fair surplus, but was incomplete. As a few accounts had not come to hand, it had been impossible to hand it over to the auditors for certification. In order that the work in connection with an annual meeting of the kind should be continued regularly' throughout the year, and not confined to the few weeks prior to the meeting, in was the unanimous opinion of those present that an athletic club should be formed, and that a meeting of terested should be held on the evening cf Wednesday, 22nd April. The best thanks of the committee were accorded to the secretary (Mr S. Dixon), and to Mr J. Clout for efficient services rendered, the appreciation cf the committee taking the form off the small bonuses totally inadequate as remuneration for work done that were voted. The great need of a public recreation ground was fully discussed, the meeting deciding to do all it could to acquire ground of area sufficient to subserve all athletic and sports purposes.
