Huntly School of Mines.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. A meeting of the members of .the Council of the Huntly School of Mines was held on Thursday evening, when there were present Messrs J. Fletcher (chairman), W. Brownlie, J. Elliot, W. M. Jolley, G. S. Langford, and W. Gowaus. Tiie minutes of the preceding meeting and the outward correspondence were read and adopted. Notification was received from the Mines Department to the effect (1) that the sum of £B2 12s 6d had been earned by the school for the period ended 31st January, that sum being made up of a £l. for £1 subsidy on the fees amounting to £7B L7s 6d, and half tuition fees, £3 15s ; (2) That the plan of the proposed school building had not been received; and (3) That a number of books (as already published) had been forwarded to form the nucleus of a circulating library. The Council decided to forward the plan at once, and to thank the Minister for the subsidy and for the books. A telegram from the director, Mr Lament, stated that he would be ready to commence work on April Ist. It was decided to institute classes for shorthand, bookkeeping and English, the fees for the first two classes to be 10s fid eacli and for the third, 5s plus the school membership fee of 2s 6d.
