Mr Whitney, of the Colonial Ammunition Co., Auckland, was in Huntly on Tuesday. Among the visitors to the mining town this week, was the Rev. Father Cahill. Mr P. Brown is still under the observation of the doctors in the Waikato Hospital. Mr G. Mellsop and his staff left for Hamilton to take levels necessary for the prosecution of certain public works. Mrs F. James, Auckland, who has been on a visit to Mr and Mrs R. James, William St., left on Wednesday for Cambridge. Mr W. Gribble is doing very well in the Waikato Hospital where, it is anticipated, he will, shortly undergo an operation. On Wednesday Mrs H. Peckham, Huntly W„ was successfully operated upon in the Waikato Hospital by Drs. Douglas and J. C. Macdiarmid. At a meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board held yesterday, it was decided, on the suggestion of Dr. McGill, that when the revision of salaries comes up for consideration, the Board should remember Inspector Calderwocxj’s whole-hearted devotion to duty during the recent epidemic. Messrs E. W. Alison, H. A. Gordon, and W. J. Ralph, directors, and Mr J. Fotheringham, secretary of the Taupiri Coal Mines, Ltd., arrived in Huntly last night in order to inspect the company"s properties on the west side of the river. They will leave for town again on Saturday morning. His many friendsand admirers will learn with regret that Sergeant Major Leech will shortly be transferred to another district. In musical and social circles his transfer will be a decided loss even though t-h ? faetthat Ills removal means promotion will go far to assuage the the general disappointment. The many friends of the Rev. M. J. Evans will be pleased to hear that the Methodist Conference held recently it: Dunedin has appointed him f the Huntly Circuit for a thijgl year. The Rev. Wm. Walker, so well known in this district, has been appointed to an important position in Dunedin, in charge of the Central Mission. Before severing his connection with Messrs Green and Colebrook whose ironmongery department he has been in charge of for over two years, Mr A. Salmon, who has accepted a similar appointment in Morrinsville, was presented by his feilow employees with a handsome case of pipes. Mr Wm.
