Sports Committee.
The weekly meeting of the ■ ports Committee took place on vVeduesday night when a large i mount of preliminary work was .lone. The secretary was empowered to hire M e necessary marquees, and Mr B cooks was appointed to call upon, and ask the business people to close tueir premises from 11.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 28th inst. The various sub-committees report? 1 progress, while as Mr i'. Bailey had shown his syinpphy with the movement bycutgrass on the Recreation G >und, the sub-committee decided to start on the track next S iturday. Mr Briton intimated i hot ihe Scots Society was willing six guineas to a bagpipe - competition, and stated that ihe Society had suggested that the Sports Committee donate prizes for a dancing competition. Though the donation was highly appreciated, it was decided to refer the letter back to the Scots Society in the hope that the members or the council would contribute that sum to a competition, the commit-. pledging itself to provide music for the item. \\ i;h the appointment of gateni n the meeting adjourned until next Wednesday.
