Waikato Central Show.
THE ENTRIES. From year to year general interest is felt in the entries received for the District Agricultural Show, and cacli year, as the numbers are published, surprise is expressed at the splendid exhibit of stock and industries that are recorded. For many years the Waikato Central held the premier position in the Auckland Province as a stock exhibition, and although this year’s entries do not constitute a record, the exhibitions bid fair to be the most representative and best yet held by the Association. The entries at time of going to press were as fol- . lows: — Horses 741 Cattle 3(14 Sheep 865 Pigs 60 ’ Miscellaneous 525 Total 1755 From the above figures it will be seen that the horses are in excess of last year; the light horses |are rather short, hut the excess is made up in draughts, ' which section is splendidly represented, exhibits coming from Manawatu, Taranaki, Clevedon, Tuakau, Papakuru, Thames Valley, and the King Country. As was anticipated, the competition in the measurement classes in this section are well to the fore. The cattle sections are well filled, the competition in Pedigree and Grade Jerseys being the best for many years. Shorthorns and Holsteins are also strongly represented, while the fat stock competition is rather better than the average. Sheep are the weak section. ’ This is doubtless accounted for from the fact that in recent years the Waikato has devoted most of its attention to the dairying in- . dustry. The old gag, “ You cannot have your cake and eat it too,” applies. ; On the whole, the entries received provide material for one of the most attractive shows yet . held.
