Spinsters’ Ball.
One of the most successful functions of its kind was the ball given by the Spinsters of Huntly bv way of a return for that organised recently by the bachelors. The ball was held on Tuesday evening in the Miners’ Hall which was very prettily decorated, the sombre groan ot t’.ia vdgotation toning down the somewhat garish colouring of the bunting, and forming a background that provided a fine contrast to Hie pretty toilettes of the ladies, the whole the going to composition of a picture as charming as it was animated. The c mnnittee, comprising Missos M Berry, A. Evans, E. Evans, Eves, E. Green, B. Houstev, B. Low, E. Par es, L. Peckham, Rupin, A. St me, and A. Webster, 1 eft nothing undone that tended to conduce to the comfort and enjoyment of their guests, and proved once again the truth of the adage to tiie effect that tiie achievement of success depends, not on luck or other fortuitous circumstance, but on the details and minutiae which, though apparently trivial in themselves, form the great factors for success. For their labours, engrossing and hard as they were, there was compensati m in th - knowledge that, from the grand march which was led by Miss Parkes and Mr J. D. L. Leech, to the last valse, tilings wont merrily as tha orthodox wedding bell,* and that not the slightest hitch arose to disturb the general harmony. The floor was in capital order ; the prettily laid out supper, tasty and recherche, was all that could bo desired: tho company, it goes without saying, was excellent; and the music supplied by Messrs S. Webster (piano), B. Webster (violin). Wriglev (flute) and J. Fulton (bass)- tempted the" flying faoi ’ to fly sti l faster, while the M’s C.. Messrs J D L. Leech, J. Uarmody, F. J. Farrell and I. Webs tor, were assiduous, attentive and efficient.. O'
