School Of Mines.
A mooting of the council of the School of Minos was held on Tuesday night, Mr J. P. Bailey presiding. The chairman reported that he had seen Mr Ralph and had gone into the question of site with him. Mr Ralph,besides promising to go fully into the matter on lvs return to Auckland, was good enough to promise to bring the question of a subscription from tho Taupiri Company before his directors. Mr Bailey also explained that he had asked Mr G. A. James to prepare plans and specifications for a building 2d by 40 feet, such building to be built of galvanised iron, match lined internally, and, if possible, a brick front, the price not to exceed £250. The presidents action was endorsed. In answer to the secretary’s i letter re grants and subsidies, the Mines Department wrote that subsidies would be granted i i accordance with the promise* made in a previous letter. The secretary was authorised jtn ascertain the cost entailed in equipping other Schools, and to obtain a general idea of the requirements. It was intimated that the classes in Mathematics ami : Applied Mechanics would stmt | on the evening of Tuesday, 23rd. | inst., and that arrangements w r * being made for an early star: j with the class in Chemistry. The difficulty of securing the servi.vs of a teacher of Mechanical Drawing at a renumeration in keeping with the finances of the school would not permit of an immediate start being ma lo in that subject.
