New Police Buildings.
The new police station now being erected in Raynors’ Road is nearing completion and will probab’y be ready for occupation next week, when Mr Ingram, who it is hoped will be retained here, will be able to move into it from his present house in Extended Street. The contract was let by the Public Works Department on March 27th last to MrC. H. Frankham, Contractor, Auckland, hut owing to the inclement | weather a start was not made till May 15th following; despite this set back, however, the work has beer, pushed so rapidly ahead that it will be finished well within the specified contract time. The work has been executed under the superintendence of Mr D. J. Creamer, and the throughout reflects gre^credit on his management. The residence itself covers ground of about 52ft by 3 2ft, and contains 6 rooms, the bedrooms being provided with wardrope to each, while bathroom scullery and pantry, are provided and he atingis provided for with threi register j grates and range, from the latter an efficient hot wat?r service being laid. Tanks are erected to provide storage room of 16000 gallons of water. The H police office is 38ft by 14ft, divided into two rooms, with fireplaces and all requisite fittings. The lockup itself comprises four i cells 12 feet by 8 feet, one of - which is padded for emergency in cases of lunacy. A com- ■ modious stable is also provided, ’• 18ft by 14ft, with loose box, ‘ | forage store, and fittings com- ) plete for one troop hors?, the floor being laid with concrete. 3 An efficient system of drainage t has been laid with septic tank, *' to the entire satisfaction of the t health authorities. The building ? inside and out has rec.uve.l 4 1 coats of paint, and t’ue finishing colours of cream, picked out 3 with dark green, have a very 1 pleasant effect. These buildings - have been exception, l’y well - catered for in the mode of con--1 struction, all external walls ' being lined with specially pre- > pared tarred paper to keep out dampness, draughts, vermin, etc, while the roofs are lined with J felt. The Public Works De--3 partment is to b 3 congratulated ? on the work they have provided >, to be put in the building, and in h this case at least show their bei lief in the motto that “ what is • worth doing at all, is worth doing r well.”
