Huntly Public Library.
At a meeting of the trustees of the Public Library held on Tuesday evening under the presidency of Mr J. Parkes, the subcommittee reported that as a result of their work a rough catalogue of the books on the shelves had been made, and that any volumes, which were incomplete or unsuitable, had been put aside. The sub-committee recommended that these he sold and that new and complete editions of the works of standard authors, such as Scott, Dickens, Thackeray, George Eliot, Chas. Lever, Dumas, etc., be procured at onco as well as a number of volumes of the latest current fiction. An application to lease the reading room was refused on the ground that the committee had no power to grant to any person the use of the room which might at any time be required for purposes of an educational nature, and which was already leasod by two parties. Several accounts totalling 4<l 11s 3d were passed for payment; while Dr Macdiarmid, junr, Messrs J. Elliot and G. A. James were elected a sub-committee for the purpose of selecting new books, their list to bo submitted to the trustees for approval or other-
