Fraser arrived in Huntly on Saturday from Young’s Point. Otamatea, where the former was on :i visit of inspection, and on Wednesday lett for the Kaipara, Mr G. A. James accompanying them* Messr>T. and E. Partridge, who have given mining best, left Huntly on Tuesday t) commence farming on their land near Pukekohe. The two brothers carry with them the b?st wishes of a largo circle of friends and acquaintances. It is rep »rted that Mr C. Bird who has conducted the Kiu Ora Boarding House so successfully and well f>r a number of years, has sold out ;to Mrs W. Waugh. Mr and Mrs Bird intend t» proceed to I Australia. The public will learn with great regret that Mr G. L. Mercer who has acted as chief clerk at the railway station for j the last two and a half years, is under orders to hold himself in i readiness to take up relieving j duty. His new work will necessitate his departure from j Huntly where, as an official, his j courtesy, geniality and obliging j nature have won the approbation and esteem of the public, j while, in his private capacity, he has taken a lively interest in i everything that made for the welfare of the town. The Tennis Club as well as the Debating i Society and other institutions will feel his los< acutely. The best wishes of the residents as a whole will accompany Mr Mercer to his new sphere.
