DAMAGE IN SOUTH CANTERBURY
WINTRY CONDITIONS PREVAIL

During the past week 'South Canterbury has experienced the most unseasonable weather. : A week ago, heavy rain fell. This was followed by nor’-w-esters, which resulted in considerable damage to wheat and other cereal crops, and also to fruit: During the past few days, further heavv rain has fallen, the conditions to-day, with rain, hail and squalls being akin to those of mid-winter. In the southern part of the district a light frost .was - recorded, while snow fell in tlie MaeKenzie country on Christmas Day.
Sports fixtures in.Timam were interrupted to-day, and as a result of frequent- delays, the local tennis tournament has been abandoned. The local bowling tournament' is a full day behind the schedule.. , y
