(Per Press Association Copyright .j

BLENHEIM, December 27

Two visitors, Bruce Forsyth, of Wellington, and formerly of Christchurch, and Desmond Johnson, of Oxford, Canterbury, had an unenviable experience in Pelorous Sound on Saturday night, news of which has just reached Blenheim.

The pair chartered the'3o-foot launch Rata at Havelock and set out for Kenepuru, giving a. lift to two other men.

About 10 o’clock, near St. Omer, the launch caught fire. Forsyth, who was in the engine room had to jump overhoard to extinguish his burning clothes. As the launch was then running ahead there was difficulty in picking him up. Finally this was achieved and the launch was then beached and the fire extinguished after a long fight. The party had to spend the night on the beach in heavy rain.

Forsyth and Johnson are now in Picton hospital, undergoing treatment for burns.

The launch engine was badly damaged and the engine-room was burned out.
