DAIRY TRADE
/ ri BUTTER PRICES LOWER.
LONDON, December 24
It was hoped that the news' of the restrictions dm Australian and New Zealand butter -exports would have steadied the market. This, unfortunately, has mot‘ been’ the case, and prices have ■ declined by 3s afid 4s. Coris'umption -is still 'very- good, with retail prices at from 9d to lOd a pound. The stocks in cold store have beeri reduced 'to 440,000 boxes, but owing to heavy (gradings by Australia and New Zealand," large Quantities ’afe due To arrive ‘in January. This has 'made buyers riervotis, and they’are drily operating from hand- to jn'orith. There is one favourable 'factor in ’the position—a consider/ • able shrinkage of Continental supplies, except 'Russian, which continue larged 'than last year, The cold store stocks of 'Russian -arid ’Baltic butters have rapidly declined, however, and should be practically cleared by the end of‘the 'year, so Empire 'butter will have a larger outlet, with Danish its only serjour competitor.
