OBITUARY
The death of Mrs Brocklehurst, relict cf the late Mr Joseph Brocklehurst, of Revell Street, removes a, .very and respected resident of the tov.fi. The deceased was a native of Deptford, 1 London, and caiqe to New Zealand about.s3 years: ago. She had been a "resident of Hokitika over a long period of year s and has always..taken a keen interest in the (welfare of the district. Of late years'she-has been failing in health and some months ago suffered a stroke. She had berin gradually fail* irig arid fori soring l time ho'W httdbeeft confined to her bed, gradually gritting weaker and she passed • a Way quietly last evening, about 6 o’clock. Deccan* ed was 72 years of age, and leaves a family of four daughters (Mr s L, Cooper of Auckland, Mrs R. Lynn of Hokitika, Mrs W. Barrowman of Christchurch -and Mrs Parke of Rangiora), and one son, (Mr William Brocklehurst of Takapau, Hawke’s Bay), to whom the sympathy of a wide circle of. friends will be, -extended.- 1 - ,
Advice was received this . morning of ) the death last night of. Mrs King/ wife jy ? - of Mr Vernon King, of Christchurch,. ::j and formerly of the staff at Hokitika ,c; railway, station. The deceased w.as- a-, daughter of Mr and Mrs Field, of A,’ ■Moana, and formerly of the Railway (Hotel, Hokitika, and sister of ' Mrs .Allan Chapman, of .Kanieri Forks. Deceased had undergone a -serious operation some time ago .and her oonditi''U had been known to be very serious i'„r the last .few days. One young child is left.
