It is estimated that the Pope will received £16,000 from the estate of the late Mr Patrick Lawlor, of ‘‘Alma,” Alma Road, Camberwell, as a result' of i-the- recent decision of the State Pull Court, and that Mrs Margaret Lawlor, widow, wijl receive £BOOO, : and Mr Lawjlor’s faothFrs and sisters in Ireland,' £BOOO. j- The State Full Coiirt held that the {specific' bequest of 507 preference any •9500 ordinary shares .in the., Herald ifind Weekly Times, Ltd., 1100 prefer--lence shares in.tlie Australian Paper and Pulp,, and 100 preference. shares in Cordon and Gotch,. and a half share in jthe residue of the estate, to form the nucleus of . a Catholic daily newspaper ■were invalid.
; Because of the ,Fall. Court decision the specific bequest' went into residue. This increased the Pole’s share. Tlie Pope was left half the re'sidue for the propagation of the Faith, v Mr Lavvlar, who left estate in Victoria and. New South-Wales of a gross value of, £IIO,OOO, died in Rqme last year.. ... ■..
He left his widow his house in Camberwell, but no pecuniary legacies. At the time the will was drawn up Mr Lawlor, knew . that, his wife had ample means.
A clause in his will stated : ‘ ‘TKs will is made „in the full possesion of my faculties without outside aid or influence, therefore no one has the Tight to question, its validity.”
