SHIPS COLLIDE
SWEDISH VESSEL FOUNDERS.
SEVEN PERSONS DROWNED
(Per British Official Wileless.)
RUGBY, December 21
As the result of a collison in thick fog, off Spur Head, between the Swedish steamer Castor, and the Hull trawler Kurd, the Castor, a vessel of 569 tons, sank almost immediately, and tiie stewardess and six male members of the crew were drowned. The Kurd reached Hull to-day, carrying seven survivors.
They say the- Castor was struck in tlie bows, filled rapidly, and sank immediately, before they were able to rouse the sleepers. The survivors, left floundering in icy cold water, despaired of rescue as the. trawler drifted away in the fog. Eventually they were saved by ropes and boat hooks.
The heavy fog in the Channel is delaying many ships.
