SESSION NEARING THE END
CURRENCY REFORM PROPOSAL

WELLINGTON, December 22
The Legislative Council yesterday passed the following additional bill* without amendment: —Sales Tax Amendment Bill, Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill, Small Farms (Relict of Unemployment) Almendment Bill, Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill, Law of Libel Amendment Bill, CoOperative Pig-marketing C°mp-> n ies Bill, Local Legislation Bill, Native Purposes Bill, Goal mines Amendment Bill, Dairy Industry Amendment Bill, New Zealand Branch of'‘the British 'Red Cross and Order of St. John Empowering .Bill, and Mortgagors’ and Tenant's Relief Bill, and Appropriation Bill. .In the House of Representatives the Appropriation Bill was introduced by •Governor-General's message and passed. Speaking during the debate on the bill, the Prime Minister (the Hon. GW. Forbes), said he had given an undertaking that, before the session ended, he .would reply to tne request that those with .certain ideas on currency reform should have the 'opportunity o. placing their views before a tribunal of some standing.
The Government had agreed to appoint a committee to hear these views. The report of the committee would be made, to the Government, and subsequently come before Parliament in the ordinary way. . The Royal Commission on Native Affairs would be set up at an early date, and- it was intended that a judge of the.'Supreme Court should be chairman. The House rose at 9.12 p.m. till 11 o’clock thi s morning.

WELLINGTON, December 22
The third session of the twentyfourth Parliament concluded at 12.45 p.m. to-day with the usual valedictory speeches. Compared with the momentous meetings of 'Parliament of recent- years, the session just concluded was comparatively uneventful, but a very large number of bills were passed.
During the session the House met on fifty-seven days and sat for 382 hours 13 minutes, representing a daily average of six hours 45 minutes.
The House of, Representatives met at 10 this morning to receive the Appropriation Bill back from the Legislative •Council and immediately adjourned to enable the. Minister and Speaker to wait upon Lord Bledisloe to receive the IRoyal Assent to the bill. The resumed at 11.45 when the Speaker formally announced the ißo,y.al Ai.jsettt- had. been .given.
